Tearful Messi confirms Barcelona exit

A tearful Lionel Messi confirmed he was leaving Barcelona after 21 years at his farewell press conference on Sunday morning (Local Time).

Barcelona said on Thursday that Messi will not be staying at the club “because of financial and structural obstacles”.

Messi, 34, has been a free agent since July 1 when his contract with the club expired. The Athletic understands he is now on the cusp of agreeing to a deal to join Paris Saint-Germain, with Messi saying a move to France was "one possibility" along with a "lot" of other clubs
